QATCOM LLC V STEPHEN DEREK JONES AND OTHERS

PCB acted for the claimant, an exclusively online ‘Yellow Pages’ style directory for businesses located in Qatar. Having obtained injunctive relief against the first defendant in relation to the claimant’s key electronic assets (see http://www.pcblitigation.com/cases/qatcom-llc-v-stephen-derek-jones-and-others-2018-ewhc-492-comm/), the claimant successfully obtained early determination of a number of parts of the first defendant’s case following an application for (i) judgment on written admissions (from which the first defendant attempted to resile), (ii) summary judgment in relation to the first defendant’s defence that he had ownership rights in the claimant’s valuable domain based upon his status as a shareholder, and (iii) strike-out of parts of the first defendant’s defence. The claimant was awarded its cost of the application on an indemnity basis.
