Fraud Updates 2007

2 February

Increasingly companies and individuals are falling victim to identity theft. In particular, fraudsters are using websites to assume the identities of famous individuals or brands, in order to exploit their intellectual property rights. It was reported earlier last month that a firm of English solicitors had fallen victim to a fake website scam but had been able to do little about it.

Last year, PCB Litigation used its international contacts to obtain the removal of a fake banking website hosted in the US within 24 hours of instructions, PCB have obtained the removal of a further fake website last month. To bolster our expertise in international IP fraud litigation, we are pleased to announce the recruitment of a senior lawyer with extensive experience of prosecuting and defending IP cases.

We are also pleased to announce that Steven Philippsohn has been appointed deputy chairman of the Fraud Advisory Panel. Please see the announcement of the Financial Times
