PCB Litigation News 2008

February

On the 26 February PCB Litigation appeared The Times to discuss new powers that had been given to Revenue Tax Officials.

PCB Litigation has been retained by a company seeking to trace the identity of a person who hacked into its email system.

PCB Litigation has successfully settled a $69 million claim shortly after obtaining an Order that the Claimant pay £500,000 into Court or the claim be struck out.

PCB Litigation has been retained on a substantial multi-jurisdictional case involving the freezing of the suspected proceeds of crime, which may have important repercussions for worldwide e-commerce.

The opening of PCB Litigation's office on Second Life was mentioned in The Times. PCB was described by The Times' legal commentator as "one of the leading fraud firms" whilst also referring to our view that Second Life is a prime target for online fraudsters.

The Fraud Advisory Panel unanimously appointed Steven Philippsohn of PCB Litigation as Deputy Chairman for a further 2 years.

On 5 February Steven Philippsohn of PCB Litigation was quoted in The Times regarding the the need for those affected by the fraud at Societe Generale to look very carefully at the various available jurisdictions in which to bring any claim He said "banks can find themselves liable not only to penalties by the regulator but also to substantial claims by disgruntled investors. We would advise investors bring class actions in jurisdictions where greater levels of damages can be awarded. France has a much less developed system for class actions, while the English system is developing, with the increasing availability of third-party funding." He also pointed out that there must be a strong likelihood of a US dimension to the Kerviel affair - even if only in terms of SocGen marketing its services there.
